Using Up Garden Fruit

With the weather fluctuating between very wet and very hot, the garden has started producing huge amounts of fruit: apples, rhubarb, blackberries, red currants… and we’re struggling to keep up with everything.

Also found something strange growing in one of the wall planters…

Last weekend I used to the first crop of red currants to make a sort of Asian chutney to go with a Cantonese beef Quorn bowl I did for a midweek meal. This weekend I had another 600g of red currants to deal with, so made an onion and red currant chutney that Soph found a recipe for. No idea when we’re going to use it all!

As for the apples, rhubarb, blackberries, and a few rogue strawberries from the fridge… I went lazy and made a crumble.

Now I’m already wondering what I’m going to do with a similar batch of fruit next weekend, and probably a basket full of courgettes and green beans!
