It’s going to be a pie weekend. To go with the steak & kidney pie for dinner, I’m doing apple pie for pudding.
As there’s nothing as American as apple pie, I’m turning to America’s Test Kitchen for the recipe. An when I did turn there, I found they have a recipe that adds ginger to the classic apple pie, so that’s the variant I’m going for.
So, basic pastry went well.
But when it came to apples… there were some volume issues. Was I meant to weigh them then peel and core? Is my dish too shallow? Am I having oz vs lbs issues? Who knows!
Anyway… top on, egg washed and into the oven.
Unfortunately we don’t have a windowsill to cool the pie on… so no cartoon whisps of smells attracting cartoon heroes. But it does look like a proper apple pie!
